With an investment of over £5million we are breathing new life into York Hill by improving living standards for residents, creating modern living spaces to be proud of, whilst reviving community spirit and bringing people closer together. We also believe that improving the outside of homes and their surrounding environments has a huge impact on the outlook of the people living in them. A comprehensive public consultation exercise with the residents of York Hill estate was carried out in 2015 which identified a need for significant improvements to properties, the environment and the community as a whole.
The three year project will see York Hill estate boast approximately 120 improved two, three and four bedroomed homes across the whole estate. The improvements, designed to meet local housing needs and aspirations will also result in environmentally friendly and energy efficient homes. We don’t just want to create better homes, working with various partners we aim to also create a stronger, happier, and more caring community.

Situated six miles from Durham City Centre and in the heart of Spennymoor, with easy access to the A1 (3 miles east) York Hill is set in a prime location. Spennymoor itself offers a range of shops and amenities, including the local leisure centre and Victoria Jubilee Park, as well as the Town Hall’s Art Gallery and Local Mining Museum. It also offers fantastic links to the employment areas of the north east. You can also take advantage of the newly build Durhamgate and surrounding development which is a short walk from the estate.
